Student Research Grant

The deadline for this program has passed. The following description is for information purposes only.

Rutgers Center for Chinese Studies is inviting undergraduate and graduate full-time students enrolled with Rutgers University, New Brunswick, to submit applications for RCCS Student Research Grant in Chinese Studies.

Applying:
Please submit a one-page single-spaced proposal (250-300 words) detailing the subject of the proposed research project, and its objectives and rationale. Applications must also include the following items in their proposals (as one file in either MS Word or PDF format):

  1. Research Proposal
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. An itemized budget

Funding:
Up to four (4) RCCS Student Research Grants (up to $1,000 per grant) will be awarded.

Conditions of Awards:
The RCCS Student Research grant in Chinese Studies may be used to defray ONLY research and conference travels, hotel lodgings, and other archival and fieldwork expenses related to the pursuit of Chinese studies. The awards may NOT be used for personal salary supplement, equipment and furniture purchases, and/or other unauthorized expenses.

Due to the constraint of the funding source, awardees must spend their grant money by June 10, 2018 and submit their receipts by June 15, 2018 in order to have their reimbursement requests processed by the end of the current fiscal year which ends on June 30, 2018. Please be advised that these deadlines are based on the guideline for last fiscal year and can be moved up by the university. Therefore, a research trip or a presentation at a conference in the spring or early summer is most ideal.

A report on the outcomes or impact of the funded research must accompany the request for reimbursement. All unused award funds will be forfeited without exception.

Review Process:
The Center’s Faculty Advisory Board will meet to review all applications in January 2018. Successful applicants will be notified of their awards soon after.

Deadline:
All application materials are due by 6 PM EST, Monday, January 15, 2018. No late submission of applications will be accepted after the deadline.

Submission:
Please submit your application electronically through the center’s website (rccs.rutgers.edu/grants).

For any inquiry, please contact the director.
