  • Research Interests: gender and sexuality, reproductive politics and family ideology

Nan Hu is a Ph.D. student in the Anthropology Department at Rutgers University, with previous studies in media and cultural studies (MA) at NYU. In her ongoing graduate endeavor, Nan critically links perspectives from cultural studies, sociology, anthropology, feminist studies and queer theory with her own experiences as part of the East Asian world, seeking to establish a contextually-grounded dialogue between Western and East Asian epistemologies. Her primary research interests are geared toward gender and sexuality, reproductive politics, family ideology, and kinship with particular attention to the one-child policy and state power in China.
