Jessey Choo, Associate Professor of Chinese History and Religion, is awarded membership of the Institute for Advanced Study for the 2024–2025 academic year. While at IAS, she will work on her second book, The Blood Debts: Childbearing, Filial Piety, and Women's Soteriology in Chinese Religions, 600–1500 CE, tracing the development and consequences of a popular Buddho-Daoist soteriology that centers on childbirth and women's damnation to hell because of menses and parturition blood. Congratulations, Professor Choo!
