Xingming Wang is a Ph.D. student in the Comparative Literature Program at Rutgers University. He graduated from Soochow University with a B.A. degree in English and later from Nanjing University with an M.A. degree in English Language and Literature. His previous studies in English Department equip him with considerable knowledge of literary theories while inspiring him to explore the circulation and influence of Western theories in the Chinese context. With a transnational perspective of theory in mind, Xingming is drawn to a comparative study of Chinese literature, with special attention to the encounter and engagement between Chinese and Western discourse on environment and animals since the late Qing era. His research interests reside in modern and contemporary Chinese literature, world literature, environmental humanities, and animal studies.
