  • Research Interests: China-Latin America relations during the Cold War period

Jian Ren is a doctoral candidate in the History Department at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. He is primarily interested in China-Latin America relations during the Cold War period. His dissertation examines how Chinese diplomats, journalists, and researchers developed their understanding about Latin America from the 1950s to 1980s, and how Latin America's politicians, intellectuals, and Chinese immigrants contributed to this process. Jian earned his Bachelor of Arts in political economy at the University of Sydney in 2016 and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago in 2017.
